Snowflake obsidian consists of a black background with gray and white markings that resemble snowflakes. The snowflake pattern is created by small clusters of cristobalite crystals known as spherulites. Snowflake obsidian is also referred to as “spherulitic obsidian” and “flowering obsidian”. In general, obsidian was used by shamans for their metaphysical properties. Snowflake obsidian is believed to bring positive energy, purity, strength, balance, and protection from negativity. It also is believed to relieve muscle cramps. Some use it as a detoxification stone.
